Spring is a season of small pleasures, and this film for Old Navy is built from them. A step, a spin, a burst of colour, each caught as a still photograph and pieced back together in stop motion. The movement is a little imperfect, and that's what makes it warm.
The stills came in by the thousand, and my job was to turn them into a performance. I stitched them together at a true stop-motion pace, posterising the timing so every movement stayed clear and readable rather than blurring into something smoother and less charming. The larger task was structural: joining a series of separate scenes into a single world, moving through each chapter of the campaign while keeping everything in step with the voiceover.
