Few watchmakers get a third act. Urban Jürgensen, founded in Copenhagen more than two centuries ago, marked its return with a gala in a Santa Monica aircraft hangar, a new generation of watches and a guest list drawn from Hollywood and the art world. The mood was Nordic, the welcome decidedly Californian.
An event backdrop has an unusual brief: be seen all evening without ever demanding attention. For Urban Jürgensen’s gala, I designed a looping animation drawn from the language of the watch itself: turning wheels, fine dial details and the steady rhythm of a movement at work. It was paced to run for hours without growing tiresome and kept in step with the room’s mix of Nordic calm and warmth.
